Why did metamorphosis evolve in insects?
Conventional wisdom says that it was in order to prevent
competition between parents and offspring. However, the
bagworm moth does not even have functional mouthparts and never feeds.
This Java application shows that metamorphosis is
a good strategy for dealing with clumped, ephemeral food
sources. The programme requires some familarity wth biology.
